Delhi Shivers as Mercury Drops to 7.1 Degrees Celsius, Marking Chilly Minimum Temperature

Low visibility due to foggy conditions led to delays in several flight operations.

On Friday, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below the seasonal average, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast indicated that the maximum temperature for the day is likely to be around 18 degrees Celsius.

Low visibility due to foggy conditions led to delays in several flight operations. The IMD reported an improvement in visibility at Palam Airport, Delhi, from 00 meters at 0430 IST to 150 meters at 0630 IST.

At 8:30 a.m., visibility further improved, with 500 meters recorded at Palam and 400 meters at Safdarjung.

Despite the weather conditions, the air quality in Delhi remained in the 'very poor' category at various monitoring stations across the city. In the Anand Vihar area, PM2.5 levels were recorded at 348 ('very poor'), and PM10 reached 242 ('poor') at 9 a.m., according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

At IGI Airport T3, PM2.5 levels were measured at 210 ('poor'), and PM10 was at 135, falling under the 'moderate' category on the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI is categorized as 'good' (0-50), 'satisfactory' (51-100), 'moderate' (101-200), 'poor' (201-300), 'very poor' (301-400), and 'severe' (401-500).
