Delhi Registers Minimum Temperature of 8.2°C; Air Quality Persists at 'Very Poor' Levels

The national capital greeted the day with a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, just a notch above the seasonal average, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Early in the morning, visibility in the city dropped to 500 meters at Safdarjung and 900 meters at Palam. The weather department noted the occurrence of shallow fog in the city.

The IMD categorizes fog into four types based on intensity: shallow, moderate, dense, and very dense, with visibility ranging from 999 meters to less than 50 meters.

The impact of fog and the cold wave led to delays in the schedules of 22 trains, as reported by Indian Railways.

The air quality in various stations across the city remained in the 'very poor' category. At Anand Vihar, PM2.5 levels stood at 339, while PM10 recorded 265, both categorized as 'very poor' according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). CO levels were at 115, considered 'moderate'.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) scale categorizes air quality: 'good' (0-50), 'satisfactory' (51-100), 'moderate' (101-200), 'poor' (201-300), 'very poor' (301-400), and 'severe' (401-500).

At the T3 terminal of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, PM2.5 levels measured 238, falling under the 'poor' category, while PM10 stood at 126, categorized as 'moderate'.
