Covid-19 India Update: Weekly case count drops below 50,000, lowest in 19 months

Amid growing Omicron cases in the country, India records the lowest Covid case count in 19 months as Covid infections continue to drop nationwide. The country registered less than 50,000 new Covid-19 cases in the past week, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare.

The fresh cases recorded daily have seen a significant drop in several states of the country. However, the fresh cases continue to rise in a few states including Maharastra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Key Points: 

1. With a 12.3% drop in the weekly Covid case count, India recorded around 49,000 new Covid-19 infections from December 13- 19, the lowest weekly case count in the last 19 months. The Covid cases recorded in the previous week stood at 55,824.

2. Deaths caused due Covid infections also registered a decline as it dropped below 2,000 during the week for the first time since October 11-17. The country recorded 1,922 fatalities during December 13-19.

3. Maharashtra and Delhi were among the states which registered a rise in the daily Covid case count, while, the other states continued to record a drop in the fresh cases covid cases. Maharashtra logged 5,713 fresh cases and Delhi recorded 479 fresh cases.
