Cold day conditions to continue over North India for next two days, reports IMD

The IMD also issued a warning that dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail over North India for the next five days.

As North India grapples with the persistent onslaught of frigid weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) cautioned on Tuesday that "cold day to severe cold day" conditions are expected to persist in the region over the next two days, gradually easing thereafter.

The IMD also issued a warning that dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail over North India for the next five days.

According to the daily bulletin from the weather forecast agency, "minimum temperatures" range from 3-5 degrees Celsius over certain parts of east Uttar Pradesh and northwest Uttar Pradesh, and 6-10 degrees Celsius over many areas encompassing Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, south Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar.

"These temperatures are below normal by 3-5 degrees Celsius over parts of Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, north Haryana, Rajasthan, and west Madhya Pradesh, and normal over the rest of North India. Today, the lowest minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius was reported at Meerut (west Uttar Pradesh)," stated the IMD.

The IMD further forecasted that cold day to severe cold day conditions are highly likely to persist in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, extending to some areas on Thursday. Isolated pockets may experience cold day conditions on Friday and Saturday. Similar conditions are expected in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan on Tuesday, with cold day conditions in isolated pockets on Wednesday. Additionally, cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely to persist in isolated pockets of Bihar on Tuesday, followed by cold day conditions in isolated pockets for the subsequent four days," said the IMD.

The IMD highlighted that cold wave conditions are expected in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan during Tuesday and Thursday, and over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Ground frost conditions are very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and west Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday," added the IMD.
