Cold Day Conditions Persist as Delhi Records Minimum Temperature of 7.1

On Tuesday, the city experienced a maximum temperature of 13.4 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the seasonal average by six notches.

The national capital of India greeted its residents with a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius, in line with the seasonal average, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The day is forecasted to remain chilly, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 16 degrees Celsius, marking Wednesday as a cold day.

This morning, the city registered the lowest visibility at 700 meters at Safdarjung at 7:30 a.m., while Palam recorded 800 meters at 8:30 a.m. The IMD categorizes fog intensity into four types: shallow, moderate, dense, and very dense fog, depending on visibility ranges from 999 meters to less than 50 meters.

Due to the prevailing fog and cold wave, Indian Railways reported delays of up to several hours for 18 trains.

The air quality across various stations in the city continued to persist in the 'very poor' category. At Anand Vihar, PM2.5 levels stood at 307 and PM10 reached 181, classified as 'very poor' and 'moderate,' respectively. The CO levels were measured at 135, considered 'moderate' as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) scale, where zero to 50 is 'good,' 51 to 100 is 'satisfactory,' 101 to 200 is 'moderate,' 201 to 300 is 'poor,' 301 to 400 is 'very poor,' and 401 to 500 is 'severe.'

At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Terminal 3, PM2.5 levels were recorded at 292 ('poor' category), while PM10 was at 166 ('moderate' category).
