An infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Jammu was foiled by vigilant Border Security Force (BSF) troops late on Friday night, killing one intruder, the BSF said on Saturday.
The BSF, in a press statement, stated, "During intervening night of 04 April/05 April 2025, alert BSF personnel noticed a suspicious movement from this side of the IB in the Jammu border sector and an intruder was seen crossing the IB. He was intercepted by alert BSF personnel but didn't care and continued.
The force added, "BSF soldiers, feeling threatened, neutralized the intruder. The identity and intention of the intruder is being determined."
After the unsuccessful attempt at infiltration, BSF said that it is filing a strong protest with the Pakistani Rangers.
The attack happens in the midst of the increasing terrorist activity along Jammu and Kashmir throughout recent months. A series of encounters have caused a number of militants, together with top officials, to become neutralised. Stories of Pakistani attempts to instill terrorists at the Line of Control (LoC) in addition to supporting them with firearms also continue.
Security personnel have also been combating a growing number of drone-delivered weapon drops along the IB in Jammu. These drones are suspected to be controlled from across the border to provide weapons to terrorists in Indian territory.
BSF personnel have been able to intercept and recover many arms consignments in recent operations, neutralizing efforts by terror groups and handlers.
As the Indian Army continues to guard the LoC, recent patterns indicate a disconcerting extension of militant activity into Jammu regions that were earlier considered terror-free. The Chenab Valley, Udhampur, and Kathua are some areas that were earlier regarded as safe havens but are now experiencing intermittent security incidents.
Increased anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley have forced the militants to hide in far-flung mountainous regions, where they wait for opportunities to attack security forces.
Security analysts recommend that the changing threat dynamics necessitate a balanced approach to counter-terrorism, with a focus on robust intelligence networks and coordination between security agencies.
The renewed violence highlights the need to review and strengthen the security apparatus of the region to protect its peace and stability.
