The completion and inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya have opened up new economic opportunities for the locals, especially the younger generation. Many young individuals are now exploring entrepreneurial ventures in the tourism and service industry to cater to the increasing number of devotees visiting Ayodhya.
One such example is Dileep Pandey, who worked as a tailor in Delhi but returned to Ayodhya during the first wave of COVID-19. Sensing the potential for business, Pandey now operates a small tour and transport firm, facilitating people's visits to Ayodhya. With the inauguration of the Ram temple, he plans to expand the business by taking a loan to purchase two SUVs.
The surge in visitors to Ayodhya has created employment opportunities in various sectors, especially in the hospitality industry. Over five lakh devotees visited the temple on the first day after the consecration ceremony, and the number exceeded 10 lakh by the end of the week. Hotels in Ayodhya are fully booked till March, leading tourists to seek accommodation in nearby districts.
The Labour and Employment Minister of State, Anil Rajbhar, estimates that Ayodhya will generate around five lakh direct and indirect jobs related to the hospitality sector in the next five years. The government is working with the local administration to facilitate employment opportunities for the youth.
Youngsters in Ayodhya are proactively exploring ways to tap into the growing business opportunities. Prabhat Gond, a final-year BA student, runs a photography shop, and Sandeep Tiwari, a recent science graduate, has enrolled in a hotel management course. Many college students are taking up courses in spoken English, hospitality, and tour operations to prepare for the service sector.
The economic transformation in Ayodhya is not only creating job opportunities but also inspiring entrepreneurship among the local youth, marking a significant shift in the town's prospects.
