The Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) has successfully apprehended Haris Farooqi, the alleged leader of ISIS in India, along with one of his associates in Dhubri. The arrest took place following intelligence reports indicating their presence in a neighboring country and their intention to enter India through Dhubri for potential sabotage activities.
Upon receiving the intelligence input, a dedicated STF team, led by IGP Parthasarathi Mahanta, was deployed to track down and capture the suspected ISIS operatives. Their efforts culminated in locating the accused individuals in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri after they crossed the international border.
The detained individuals, identified as Haris Farooqi and Anurag Singh, were subsequently transported to the STF office in Guwahati for further proceedings. Both suspects are described as highly radicalized and motivated leaders within the ISIS network in India. Authorities allege their involvement in various activities aimed at advancing ISIS's agenda within the country, including recruitment, financing of terrorism, and plotting terror attacks through the placement of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in different regions.
The arrest marks a significant achievement for law enforcement agencies in their ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and maintain security within the region.
