Encouraging India to prioritize the acquisition of robust defense systems akin to those of Israel, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, emphasized the crucial need for such capabilities. His remarks surfaced against the backdrop of recent assaults on Israel allegedly orchestrated by Iran, purportedly in retaliation for an attack on their embassy in Damascus.
While Iran unleashed a barrage of suicide drones and missiles against Israel, the renowned Iron Dome and other defense mechanisms effectively intercepted and neutralized these threats. Anand Mahindra, echoing sentiments shared on X, underscored Israel's comprehensive defense architecture, highlighting not only the Iron Dome but also the extended range interception system named David's Sling. Additionally, he mentioned the Arrow 2 and 3 systems, alongside the futuristic Iron Beam, set to utilize laser technology.
Mahindra emphasized the contemporary significance of possessing ironclad defense interception systems, equating their importance with conventional offensive armaments. He stressed the imperative for India to intensify its focus and investment in this direction.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported a remarkable interception rate, intercepting approximately 99 percent of over 300 missiles and drones launched by Iran in its direct assault on Israel. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant lauded the collaborative efforts with allies, particularly the United States, in thwarting the attack with minimal damage incurred.
