Renewed Bloodshed Grips Manipur: Two Lives Lost in Recent Violence

Authorities in Imphal reported that a substantial force of security personnel, accompanied by senior police officials, swiftly mobilized to the conflict-ridden zones where conflicting armed factions had been intermittently engaging in intense gunfire over the past forty-eight hours. Upon the arrival of security forces, the armed group members retreated, abandoning the bodies at the scene. 

After a period of relative calm lasting several weeks, fresh violence erupted on Saturday, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals amidst heavy gunfire exchanges at the tri-junction of Imphal East, Kangpokpi, and Ukhrul districts, as confirmed by the police.

Further details regarding the incident are pending. Tensions remain palpable in the vicinity encompassing the tri-junction of Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, and Imphal East. Additionally, significant gunfire exchanges between various armed factions were also documented in the peripheral regions of Heirok in Thoubal and Tengnoupal districts, as well as along Pallel in Kakching and Tengnoupal districts on Friday, resulting in injuries to three village volunteers. Residents of Moirangpurel asserted that the conflict was incited by a group that constructed bunkers near their settlement, with the intent to launch assaults on the village.
