Air Quality in Delhi-NCR Remains Hazardous, Poses Risks to Residents

Delhi-NCR's air quality remained severely poor for the third day running, with the National Capital's Air Quality Index reaching a severe level of 409 early yesterday morning, while readings were above the 300 mark in several neighboring cities in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Till 6:15 A.M., the data from CPCB showed an average AQI to be 409 in Delhi, categorized as "severe," which translates to posing a very significant risk to all residents' health.

In the greater Delhi-NCR region too, the AQI levels had been not so great. According to their respective reports, Faridabad in Haryana recorded its AQI at 283 and Gurugram at 314 while in Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad recorded its AQI at 332, Greater Noida at 258, and Noida at 328.

For Delhi, 25 localities fell in the 400-500 AQI range, which falls in the "severe" category. Areas that reported very high readings included Jahangirpuri (458), Bawana (455), Wazirpur (455), Mundka (449), Dwarka Sector 8 (444), and Punjabi Bagh (443).

The other places also, such as Anand Vihar (441), Ashok Vihar (440), and the IGI Airport area (440), also recorded the AQI values very strongly above 400, which suggests the crisis character is widespread within the national Capital.

In addition, 14 cities in Delhi have an AQI in the range of "very poor" ranging from 300 to 400. These include places like Alipur with an AQI of 398, Burari Crossing with 383, Chandni Chowk with 347, Mathura Road with 368, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with 374.

As can be imagined, it is enough to make life a burden for the locals who keep on suffering from various respiratory problems, irritation in their eyes, and constant bouts of coughing.

The situation is so bad that people in and around Delhi and the entire NCR region are resorting to masks and air purifiers as part of their safety measures against the noxious air.
