Air India CEO Campbell Wilson on Monday allayed fears following the recent incident with one of the airline's Boeing 787 aircraft, noting that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AAIB) initial findings have not attributed any cause or made recommendations.
In a statement published to employees inside the company, Wilson urged caution in jumping to conclusions while maintaining that the investigation was early days.
"I want to urge everyone not to jump to conclusions as the investigation is very much ongoing," he wrote, reaffirming complete cooperation with the authorities. "We will remain cooperating with the investigators to ensure they have whatever is necessary to carry out a thorough and comprehensive investigation."
To the incident, Wilson added that, in accordance with precautionary measures, Air India had carried out checks on all Boeing 787 aircraft in its fleet within days of the accident. "Out of an abundance of caution, every Boeing 787 flight operating in Air India's fleet was inspected. all were deemed fit for service," he affirmatively stated.
He further stated that the airline would continue to perform necessary checks, as well as any fresh inspections recommended by aviation authorities.
Wilson also admitted the public interest and speculation wave over the incident. "Until the final report or cause is presented, there will surely be fresh bouts of speculation and more lurid headlines," he added. He encouraged the Air India group to stay focused and not get derailed from the airline's fundamental purpose.
