24/7 War Room Established at Delhi Airport for Ticket Refunds and Passenger Assistance

The incident took place outside T1 at about 5:00 a.m. this Friday, when a roof sheet and its supporting pillars collapsed during heavy rainfall, killing one person and at least wounding six others, seriously jeopardizing flight operations at one of the world's busiest airports.

With the closure of Terminal 1 at the Delhi airport due to the collapse of its roof ahead of heavy rain, the Centre opened a 24/7 war room. It is supposed to ensure that passengers get a full refund on cancelled flights or tickets of alternative travel routes if available.

A high-level meeting was called by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, in which the decision to set up the war room has been taken. He mentioned that the safety and convenience of passengers are issues of paramount priority.

The refund will be made within seven days, while passengers will also be given contact details, containing phone numbers for help.

The Civil Aviation Minister has further instructed that passenger convenience shall be kept foremost in consideration and necessary arrangements are made for balancing the extra load at T2 and T3 due to the temporary closure of T1.

The advisory has been issued to all airlines to see that there is no steep hike in airfare during this time. Airlines were, therefore advised not to revise the fare steeply in order to avoid troubles to passengers.

The Airports Authority of India has been directed to undertake inspection regarding the structural condition of all minor and major airports. Inspection regarding the same shall be completed within 2-5 days, with reports to be submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
