Salman Khan's long-awaited Eid release Sikandar arrived in theaters on March 30, 2025, amid anticipation from his fans to experience the superstar in his next action thriller.
Notwithstanding the anticipation, the AR Murugadoss directorial has been received with a varied reaction from audience and critics as well. But the movie opened with a satisfactory worldwide box office collection of ₹54 crore (gross) in its opening day.
Reports of Show Cancellations?
In the midst of the frenzy, veteran critic Amod Mehra made a shocking assertion that certain screenings of Sikandar were being cancelled because of insufficient audience. On his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mehra posted,
"SHOCKING… Just heard shows of Sikandar are being cancelled due to no audience."
He even posted a screenshot of a almost vacant 12:30 pm show of PVR Icon Infiniti, Andheri (Mumbai) in order to lend credibility to his assertion. But no confirmation has been released concerning show cancellations until now, leaving one to guess.
Star-Studded Cast and Salman's First Collaboration with AR Murugadoss
Sikandar was Salman Khan's first project with acclaimed director AR Murugadoss and actress Rashmika Mandanna. The movie also features Prateik Smita Patil, Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, and many others in key roles.
In an interview with Zoom, Salman Khan revealed how he came to see Rashmika Mandanna for the first time before casting her in Sikandar.
"We needed a girl for Sikandar. Rashmika's reels used to surface on my feed again and again. I would ask myself who this girl is. I had told Aayush (Sharma) she was the girl he needed in his film Antim. He inquired about me knowing her and mentioned how she was such an endearing and charming girl," Salman informed.
Was 'Sikandar' Worth The Hype?
Directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sikandar was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2025. But with the mixed word and news of disappointing occupancy in some cinemas, it appears the movie might not have quite lived up to the enormous pre-release buzz.
With the weekend stretching ahead, only time can tell whether Sikandar is able to continue its box office streak or whether it fails to hold on in the next few days.
