Bollywood superstar Salman Khan claimed that veteran actor Manoj Kumar hijacked the writing credit for his 1981 film Kranti from famous screenwriter duo Salim-Javed. Salman, however, joked that the writing of Kumar was comparable to the national snack "chana jor garam," made with spices and black gram.
"Chana Jor Garam" is also the title of one of the tracks from *Kranti*, which pairs Kumar with Dilip Kumar and Hema Malini in a patriotic drama.
At a trailer launch for Prime Video's docuseries Angry Young Men, focusing on the legendary Salim-Javed, Salman, son of Salim Khan, one half of the writing duo, spoke his mind.
"Mr Manoj Kumar took the credit for the writing of *Kranti*, claiming it as his own," Salman revealed during the event.
Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, also present there, asked, "Did he really?"
"Yes," Salman affirmed.
Farhan then suggested, "Perhaps we'll have a separate documentary for Manoj ji."
Akhtar smiled and said that Kumar's admission was quite honest. Salman agreed with him, saying that though it is a fact that Kumar, who directed, edited and produced Kranti, wrote the film, he used to write it, narrate it to them and then they would take it and go away. But he did write it. It was just like 'chana jor garam', explained Salman.
The Kranti poster credits the story and screenplay to Salim-Javed, with Kumar acknowledged for the dialogue.
