With the 76th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards to kick off in nearly a month, the host or hosts for the evening have finally been confirmed. According to Variety, the much-cherished father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will act as emcees this year for the Emmys, taking place on Sunday, September 15.
In 2020, they became the first father-son duo to collect major awards in the same year for their work with Schitt's Creek. Even though this year's winners joined in remotely because of the pandemic, Eugene Levy took home an award for Outstanding Comedy Actor while Dan Levy took home one for Supporting Comedy Actor. In addition, Dan secured two more wins in writing and directing, while both Levys won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series as executive producers.
"For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theatre was incentive enough," said the Levys in a statement. "We're thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can't wait to spend the evening with you all on September 15."
Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will become the first father-son duo to host the Emmys, but only the second duo to host this century, joining Colin Jost and Michael Che in 2018. The Levys will partner with Emmy producers Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment, who were lauded for their production of the previous Emmy telecast that was hosted by Anthony Anderson.
More meaningfully, though, it will be a huge night for Eugene Levy, who is nominated not only for both series above but also with their Apple TV+ show The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy in the running this year in Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.
