Having started successful cinema with 'Kesari' and 'Good Newwz', Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar have now announced a collaboration: a film based on the life of C. Sankaran Nair.
The period drama will depict the setting of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. On Friday, the makers released the poster where they declare the date of the untitled film. Sharing the poster, Dharma Productions wrote on Instagram, "An untold story, an unheard truth. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan & Ananya Panday - this untitled film is releasing in cinemas on 14th March, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi." Lines on the poster read, "The Untitled film on the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India's top barrister C". It was going to set Sankaran Nair to fight the most unexampled battle of his life against the British empire.
It is an adaptation from the book "The Case That Shook The Empire" written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. For the uninitiated, the book, The Case That Shook the Empire: One Man's Fight for the Truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre lays bare a defamation case filed by Michael O'Dwyer, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab when the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre took place against Chettur Sankaran Nair, who was then member of Viceroy's Executive Council. C. Sankaran Nair: Apart from being an important lawyer, politician, and reformer of India, he has played a crucial role in fighting for the independence of the country. Coming together with director Karan Singh Tyagi's thoughts, this courtroom drama will star Akshay Kumar playing the role of a lawyer in this pre-independence film.
The movie is a co-production of Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta's Dharma Productions, Akshay Kumar's Home production Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective. The movie will be releasing in theatres on March 14, 2024. This is also Akshay's first collaboration with Madhavan and Ananya. Besides this movie, Akshay Kumar will see the release of several big-ticket movies such as 'Housefull 5' and 'Welcome to the Jungle'. While R Madhavan will be seen in Aditya Dhar's untitled film alongside Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal, here's a look into the women of the industry doing it their way.
