Top 10 Universities in India (NIRF Rankings 2023)

In the university category of NIRF Rankings, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru maintained its 1st place, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) once again secured 2nd place. Both IISc Bengaluru and JNU also maintained their positions in the top 10 overall rankings of educational institutes in India.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF Ranking 2023) was announced on Monday by Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh. In the university category of NIRF Rankings, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru maintained its 1st place, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) once again secured 2nd place. Both IISc Bengaluru and JNU also maintained their positions in the top 10 overall rankings of educational institutes in India. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham lost its 5th position from the previous year to Banaras Hindu University and slipped to the 7th place in the university rankings. Aligarh Muslim University also secured a place in the top 10 rankings this year. The institutes were evaluated by NIRF based on the following parameters: teaching, learning, and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and peer perception. The number of participating institutes has also increased from 3,500 colleges in 2016 to 8,686 colleges this year, indicating the growing interest in the NIRF Rankings.
