Women Secure Top Two Ranks in UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024

Out of the 1,009 selected candidates, 335 belong to the General category, 109 to EWS, 318 to OBC, 160 to SC, and 87 to ST.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results of the Civil Services Examination for 2024. A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment in different services, as per the vacancies available and the regulations governing the exam.

Out of the 1,009 selected candidates, 335 belong to the General category, 109 to EWS, 318 to OBC, 160 to SC, and 87 to ST.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination was conducted on June 16, 2024. 5,83,213 out of 9,92,599 candidates appeared for the exam. Of these, 14,627 were selected for the Main (Written) Examination conducted in September 2024 and 2,845 candidates were shortlisted for the Personality Test.

Shakti Dubey headed the final list, claiming the top position with Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject. She has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad.

The second rank was secured by Harshita Goyal, a B.Com graduate from MS University of Baroda, who also opted for Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject.

Dongre Archit Parag occupied the third rank. He was a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore, and chose Philosophy as his optional subject.

The top five rank-holders of the exam consist of three females and two males, whereas the top 25 rank-holders consist of 11 females and 14 males. Their educational backgrounds are from diverse fields like Engineering, Humanities, Science, Commerce, Medical Science, and Architecture from renowned institutions like IITs, NITs, VIT, JNU, University of Delhi, and University of Allahabad.

The discretionary subjects picked by the top 25 candidates are heterogeneous, viz., Anthropology, Commerce & Accountancy, Geography, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, and Tamil Literature.

In addition, 45 candidates possessed of benchmark disabilities have been recommended for appointment, consisting of 12 orthopedically handicapped, 8 visually handicapped, 16 hearing impaired, and 9 with multiple handicaps.

For the benefit of candidates who require further clarification, UPSC has established facilitation counters close to the examination hall. Marks of all the candidates will be put up on the website of the Commission within 15 days.
