Tech Industry Attraction: A Report Reveals 77% of Indian Gen Z Students Eager to Join

A remarkable 77% of Gen Z students express a keen interest in pursuing careers in the technology industry in India, as revealed in a report jointly conducted by Nasscom and global hiring platform Indeed on Monday. This comprehensive study delves into the evolving preferences and trends shaping the future of work in India's tech sector, examining the future of jobs, workforce dynamics, and the evolving workspace. The survey involved 185 employers and over 2,500 individuals from current and future workforces, representing 84% of organizations.

The report highlights that Gen Zs and Millennials are increasingly opting for gig roles, with flexible job locations and a focus on specialized skills being the primary drivers for this trend. Gig worker hiring is particularly prominent in startups and the Business Process Management (BPM) sector, where organizations leverage on-demand talent for roles such as software development, data annotation, and business analytics.

Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Nasscom, noted the significant transformation in India's tech industry, emphasizing the shift from traditional office settings to a more flexible approach, including remote work. She highlighted the need for a dynamic balance between automation-driven efficiency improvements and the creative potential unleashed by continuous innovation in defining the future of work.

Organizations are adapting to these changes by investing in workspaces, geographical expansion for talent acquisition, and strategic partnerships for gaining a competitive edge. Initiatives to position themselves as employers of choice include office redesigns to foster collaboration, prioritizing employee well-being, enhancing security, and ensuring sustainability. Moreover, organizations are focusing on Environmental Social Governance (ESG) initiatives, such as diversity hiring, inclusive leadership, social impact volunteering, and reducing carbon footprints.

He highlighted personalized learning, growth opportunities within specialized technology roles, and fostering a positive corporate culture as key strategies for successful recruitment, enabling employers to engage effectively with candidates meeting the evolving demands of the future workforce.
