Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday apologized for the outage of its social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The disruption, that lasted several hours became the largest ever outage in the history of the platforms.
Meanwhile, the markets around the world reacted negatively as the shares of Facebook plummeted costing CEO Mark Zuckerberg $7 billion from his wealth. This resulted in Mark’s fall to 5th position in the global rich list with a net worth of $121.6 billion. Mark previously ranked 3rd on Bloomberg Richest index.
According to Bloomberg, the stocks of Facebook fell by 5% on Monday, adding to a 15 per cent decline since mid-September.

Sharing a post on Facebook, Zuckerberg said that he knows many people rely on the services provided by these platforms and stay connected with the people they care about.
"Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger are coming back online now," Zuckerberg said in his Facebook post. "Sorry for the disruption today -- I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about.”

Meanwhile, WhatsApp took to Twitter to say, "apologies to everyone who hasn't been able to use WhatsApp today. We're starting to slowly and carefully get WhatsApp working again. Thank you so much for your patience. We will continue to keep you updated when we have more information to share."
Facebook in a post on Monday said, "The largest outage we've ever seen on Downdetector with over 10.6 million problem reports from all over the globe."

The outage, which begun on Monday evening at around 9 pm IST, was resolved by Tuesday morning. The company did not specify the reason for the global outage. A tweet shared by Instagram said, "Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we're on it! #instagramdown".
