IMF, World Bank see India’s potential as engine of global trade, Says FM Sitharaman

In her official visit to the United States, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted India's increasing global profile as a nation of economic might and great potential, particularly in today's world scenario.

Referring to the Indian diaspora community, the Finance Minister added, "If you high-end achievers in this sector notice the possibility of coalescing with India on a personal or business-to-business level — corporation-to-corporation — you enhance the US, India, and Indian enterprise."

Inching them towards greater participation, she requested the diaspora to join actively in India's development. "I appeal to you to take more interest and join hands with India.and enable our two nations to grow and prosper," she stated, further suggesting, "I believe that's a very significant contribution the Indian diaspora can make."

Worldwide Acceptance of India's Economic Progress
Sitharaman further added that global institutions like the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have recognized India as a leader in guiding global economic momentum.

"They see the potential that is in India…and by us growing with that potential, we will likely be able to take that trend which is visible globally because of many uncertainties…keeping growth low, trade low, but inflation high somewhere," she elaborated.

She further added that whereas fears of recession are hanging over some parts of the world, India is being projected as a shining example of economic strength and resilience.

Engaging with the Global Indian Community
The Finance Minister also highlighted the Indian government's determination to connect with its global community. She mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes out of his way to reach out to Indian diaspora wherever he goes.

"India should be in a position to stand up with pride and touch every one of you, whoever, wherever in the world, trying their best to make their contribution to the world, and thus stand as an example," she added.

Sitharaman's statement comes against the backdrop of India's increasing profile on the global economic map and emphasizes the importance of the Indian diaspora and international collaborations in this process.
