GST collection rises above 1 lakh crores in November for continuously 2nd month

GST collections were slumped to a record level of Rs 32, 172 Crore in April after that government had imposed a nationwide lockdown because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The collections are taking upon the mark of above Rs 1 lakh for 2nd month in a row.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) rose 1.4% with a collection of Rs 1,04,693 Crore in November month, for the third time in a row after the depression in April. The collections are higher than Rs 1,03,491 crore that was recorded in November 2019, yet lower than October 2020's collection that was 1,05, 555.

Though the analysts have said that the collections are uneven among states and many states are seeing a decline in the numbers of GST collection.

"The trend of improved collections three months in a row points to stability returning in economic activities across the country and it is expected that this trend is sustainable in the coming months. However, there is a decline in collections in key states such as Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana which could indicate that the revival in economic activities has not been uniform across the country as Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha have recorded increase in collections during the same period," MS Mani, senior director Deloitte India told The Indian Express.

Growth in GST collection has slowed down to 1.4% year-on-year in November compared to 10% in October and 4% in September.
