Fuel prices hiked again for second straight day, reaches highest ever mark 

The petrol price in Delhi on Thursday touched its highest ever mark of Rs106 per litre, an increase of 35 paise from Wednesday. The diesel price, on the other hand, rose by its highest ever margin this year by 45 paise to Rs95.27 per litre. However, the petrol price in Mumbai, at Rs112.45 per litre, was highest in all metro cities in India. Diesel in Mumbai was also sold at Rs103.36 per litre, highest price again in all metro cities.

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked again on Thursday for second consecutive day. The latest hike in fuel prices that goes up to 45 paise a litre is the highest margin of increase so far this year.

This was the 21st hike of the diesel rates in the last 27 days in which the price rose by 6.75 per litre in the national capital.

Now the rates of the fuels have crossed Rs100 mark in most parts of the country.

This dubious distinction was earlier available to petrol that had crossed Rs 100 a litre mark across the country a few months earlier.

Besides, petrol prices which had maintained stability since September 5 were finally raised last week.

Consequently, the petrol prices were raised on 18 of the previous 23 days taking up its pump price by Rs 5.35 per litre.

Crude price has been on a surge rising over three year high level of over $85 a barrel now as global demand remains firm while 'OPEC+' continues to move slowly on increasing production.
