BMW Thrives in H1 with Over 21% Surge in Car Sales in India

The BMW Group India has posted strong results for the first half of 2024, where January to June realized more than a 21 percent increase in car sales. This growth was supported by robust demand for sports activity vehicles, luxury cars, and electric vehicles. In the period under review, the luxury carmaker sold a total of 7,098 cars—BMW and MINI combined—and 3,614 motorcycles by BMW Motorrad. Of these, 6,734 units were those of BMW, while MINI contributed 364 units.

EVs from BMW turned out to be the clear favourite across luxury consumers eying green mobility, with 397 units of fully electric BMW and MINI cars sold in the first half of the year. BMW also celebrated a milestone as the first luxury car manufacturer in India to cross 2,000 EV deliveries to date.

The BMW iX has been the best-selling luxury electric vehicle in India, with over 1,000 units sold to date, reflecting brisk market acceptance.

The luxury segment of BMW vehicles grew by more than 17 percent, which constituted a large share of total sales; here, it was the BMW X7 that turned out to be the bestseller.

Of the total, Sports Activity Vehicles contributed 54 percent to overall sales and better still increased by over 24 percent. Of such models, the BMW X1 became the best SAV with a Metals Market share of about 19 percent.

The sedan category was strongly represented by the BMW 3 Series, which boasted 17% of overall sales—an indication of its harder struggle, especially to customers.
