Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a tur dal procurement portal on Thursday, aimed at facilitating farmers' registration for selling their produce and receiving payments directly into their bank accounts.
The newly developed portal, available in multiple languages, targets tur dal cultivators in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Jharkhand. It's designed to streamline the registration, procurement, and payment procedures for these farmers. The launch will take place during a national symposium on 'self-reliance in pulses' in the capital. Presently, various pulses, including tur dal, are procured by government agencies like Nafed and NCCF to maintain buffer stocks.
"This farmer-centric initiative aims to empower tur dal producers by ensuring better prices, simplified processes, and direct bank transfers by NAFED and NCCF. It's aimed at boosting domestic pulses production and minimizing import reliance," stated an official release.
Through this initiative, registered farmers can sell their pulses for the buffer stock, receiving either the Minimum Support Price (MSP) or the market price, whichever is higher. The entire process, from registration to purchase and payment, will be available on a single platform. Farmers can register directly on the portal or through Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) and Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO). Payments will be directly transferred by NAFED into the farmers' linked bank accounts without intermediaries. The ministry highlighted that the process is entirely farmer-centric, allowing farmers to monitor their activities from registration to payment.
