Ola Electric saw its electric two-wheeler sales decline significantly in March 2025, reporting 23,430 units, down 56% from the same month previous year.
The business linked this decline to disruption created by its shift to own-vehicle registrations, which was initiated in February 2025. Ola Electric encountered slowdowns in its registration process in February while renegotiating third-party service providers, Rosmerta Digital Services Private Limited and Shimnit India Private Limited. These slowdowns impacted its month-on-month VAHAN registration numbers.
Still, Ola Electric asserted that the demand for its products was strong in urban as well as rural markets. In a statement published on Tuesday, the company said that it has nearly cleared February's backlog and is expecting to finish the outstanding registrations for February and March by April 2025.
The company further assured its customers that it is accelerating its registration operations and actively coordinating with outside stakeholders to make the process easier in the future.
Even though there was a year-on-year fall, Ola Electric experienced a 171% month-on-month growth in sales in March 2025 over February. Moreover, the company initiated deliveries of its Gen 3 range, which met with an overwhelming response from consumers. Ola also confirmed that it is ramping up production of its new models and intends to keep scaling up in April to improve delivery speed and the overall customer experience.
Conversely, Bajaj Auto saw good performance in March with a 93% year-over-year growth selling 34,863 units. The firm credited the success to the Gudi Padwa festival, which occurred in March 2025, resulting in more purchases by customers. Bajaj additionally profited from the introduction of its Chetak scooter on the 3S platform, which helped in cost savings and better margins.
TVS Motor too reported growth in its electric two-wheeler sales, reporting a 14% year-on-year growth with 30,454 units of sales in March. The I-Qube, which is available with a lesser battery pack, has become super popular.
In contrast, Ather Energy registered an 11% year-on-year dip in sales, something it explained through strong pre-book demand under the FAME 2 scheme last month in March 2024, which had driven last year's numbers.
Hero MotoCorp and Greaves Electric witnessed considerable month-over-month growth. Hero MotoCorp saw sales grow by 196% over February at 7,977 units, while Greaves Electric, which retails Ampere-branded electric two-wheelers, posted a 52% month-over-month increase, led mainly by the popularity of its recently launched Magnus scooter.
