On Wednesday, Skoda Auto, a Czech automaker, stated that India stands as its most promising growth market and will become an important contributor to Skoda's ambitions as a future export hub.
During the global launch of its first sub-four meter SUV, the Kylaq, Skoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer noted that India has immense growth potential as it is the world's third-largest car market and a new model introduction will support Skoda's objective of selling 10,000 units annually in India by 2026.
Available for book from December 2, the company will start deliveries on January 27 next year for the compact SUV priced at Rs 7.89 lakh.
India forms the very important base for Skoda. Europe is certainly the main market, but strategically speaking, an international base is being built with two strong pillars at its core and India, of course, is our second pillar that we want to build outside of Europe," Zellmer said.
He added that Skoda began the year with a new investment plan for India, focusing on making their existing product range even better.
"But we also announced our intentions to add new products, both in the internal combustion engine and the battery electric world. Today, we are taking the next step into our strategy for India, which is the third-largest car market globally," Zellmer explained.
As Klaus said, SUVs now account for 50 percent of overall new vehicle sales in India. "We want Kylaq to welcome new customers who are looking in this popular and fast-growing segment," he said.
According to Martin Jahn, a member of the Board of Directors for Sales and Marketing at Skoda Auto, "The Kylaq is our third model that is 'made in India for India' and it marks a significant milestone in our regional sales strategy. With an excellent price-value proposition, generous and functional interior, numerous advanced safety features, and superior handling, Kylaq will appeal to a wide range of new customer groups.
