Karnataka Azaan row: We’ve arranged a device to control sound, says Imam of Jama Maszid

In the midst of another controversy over Azaan and use of loudspeakers outside the mosques, Mohammed M Imran Rashadi, chief Imam and Khateeb of Jama Masjid, Bengaluru on Thursday claimed that they have arranged a device that would control the sound within permissible levels. He further said that we have made arrangements as per the Supreme court orders and the temples should follow the orders too. Following the court orders and ongoing controversy of loudspeakers, chief Imam of Jama Masjid, Bengaluru said, “We’ve arranged a device that controls the sound as required so that no problems arise. We’ll follow all the Supreme Court-issued notices. Similarly, temples should also follow,” reported by ANI.

2. Two days back Karnataka’s chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, said that his government will take action against those who would not follow the court orders on loudspeakers. The Karnataka High court had banned the use of loudspeakers in religious places in 2021. Earlier in 2001 and 2002, the court clearly mentioned that the decibel level needed to be maintained.  Bommai also said that in this regard his government has issued orders to district level to buy decibel meters to control the volume of loudspeakers.

3. CM Bommai took the action over loudspeakers issue after his cabinet minister KS Eshwarappa, on Monday asked to seek a solution to counter the issue of loudspeakers in mosques.

4. There are many controversies going on in Karnataka, starting from hijab ban, call for a ban on halal meat, to boycott Muslim traders and now this Azaan and loudspeakers controversy.

The controversy of Azan actually began from Maharashtra, On April 2, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray openly warned the Maharashtra government that if the government will not remove loudspeakers from outside the mosques, his party workers will play Hanuman Chalisa in front of mosques. The controversy sparked many opinions across the political sphere and social media.
