In a quirky revelation, a South Delhi consumer made headlines by ordering a whopping 9,940 condoms from the Zomato-owned quick delivery platform, Blinkit, in 2023. The company lauded the consumer, stating that they "deserve a standing ovation" for the extraordinary order.
Gurugram took a different turn in its shopping habits, ordering an impressive 65,973 lighters in 2023. Surprisingly, the city also showed a preference for tonic water (carbonated drink) over soft drinks during the year, according to 'Blinkit Trends 2023'.
Blinkit shared some amusing statistics, revealing that about 3,002,080 PartySmart tablets, designed to help prevent morning hangovers after alcohol consumption, were delivered in the year.
Bengaluru had its share of peculiar orders, with one individual placing an order for an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth Rs 1,59,900 along with a packet of Lay’s and six bananas.
Late-night cravings were satisfied with a staggering 3,20,04,725 packets of Maggi delivered, and a consumer ordered an impressive 101 liters of mineral water in a single order after midnight.
In another intriguing statistic, around 80,267 bottles of Gangajal were delivered via Blinkit, and someone purchased a remarkable 4,832 bathing soaps in 2023.
The data also highlighted some everyday items, such as 351,033 printouts delivered before 8 a.m., 45,16,490 Eno sachets ordered, along with 1,22,38,740 ice creams, and 8,50,011 ice cube packets.
Hyderabad took the lead in unique orders as someone from the city placed an order for 17,009 kilograms of rice in 2023.
Blinkit's CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, shared these amusing insights on LinkedIn, asking followers about their favorite among the quirky buying patterns observed on the platform in 2023. One follower humorously suggested that the large condom order may have been made by a retailer due to price differentials from a distributor.
