Ayodhya Airport Set to be Renamed After Maharishi Valmiki

Previously known as the "Maryada Purshottam Shri Ram Ayodhya International Airport," the airport's new title reflects the cultural and historical significance associated with Valmiki's contributions to the Ramayana.

The airport in Ayodhya, set to be inaugurated on Saturday, has been renamed "Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham." This renaming pays homage to the legendary poet Valmiki, renowned as the author of the epic Ramayana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the newly-constructed airport on December 30, just ahead of the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, which is set to take place on January 22, 2024.

The inaugural flights, operated by IndiGo and Air India Express, will connect Ayodhya to Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, with services commencing in January 2024. The first phase of construction for the airport, estimated at nearly Rs 1,450 crore, includes a new terminal building spanning 6,500 square meters. This terminal can accommodate 600 peak-hour passengers, with an annual handling capacity of 10 lakh passengers.

The second phase of development is anticipated to involve the construction of a larger terminal building covering 50,000 square meters. This expanded facility is designed to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours and cater to an annual capacity of 60 lakh passengers.
