Zelensky Reports 31,000 Ukrainian Military Casualties Amidst Russian Invasion

"31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have perished in this conflict. Contrary to the inflated figures of 300,000 or 150,000, as claimed by (Vladimir) Putin and his disinformation campaign," Zelensky emphasized, as reported by the BBC. He stressed the profound impact of each loss on the nation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that approximately 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives since Russia launched its full-scale invasion two years ago. Zelensky clarified the figure during a recent press conference, aiming to counter the exaggerated casualty numbers disseminated by Russia.

Zelensky declined to disclose the number of wounded soldiers, citing concerns over aiding Russian military strategizing.

Regarding civilian casualties in the occupied regions, Zelensky lamented the uncertainty surrounding the true toll, acknowledging the tragic deaths, killings, torture, and deportations suffered by tens of thousands of civilians. "The exact count of victims remains elusive," he lamented, echoing statements reported by the British news broadcaster.

Zelensky's casualty estimate contrasts starkly with assessments by US officials, who in August of the previous year, estimated Ukrainian military fatalities at 70,000.

Addressing Russian losses, Zelensky noted that approximately 180,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, with tens of thousands more sustaining injuries.
