On Friday, President Donald Trump's White House unveiled a new page on its official website claiming that Covid-19 was caused by a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China.
The newly unveiled webpage not only advocates for the lab-leak theory but also blames former President Joe Biden, former chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the World Health Organization for supposedly downplaying and hiding the real source of the virus.
This supplement follows a recent CIA evaluation that tilts towards the lab-leak hypothesis being a probable explanation of the emergence of the virus. The agency had previously argued that it did not have enough information to make a definite ruling regarding the initiation of Covid-19.
The new website, once dedicated to encouraging Covid-19 vaccinations, now boasts a bold headline that says: "LAB LEAK, The True Origins of Covid-19," complete with the glaring image of President Trump.
The page continues to outright blame Dr. Fauci and President Biden for covering up the facts about the origins of the pandemic. It asserts that the previous administration "embarked on a multi-year strategy of delay, confusion and non-responsiveness" in an effort to keep the truth from the public.
In an official statement, the White House stated, "This website reveals the real origins of Covid-19 and how Democrats and the media discredited other health treatments and the lab-leak theory."
Another part of the webpage addresses the scientific paper The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2, saying, "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2 publication, repeatedly used by public health officials and the media to discredit the lab-leak theory, was pushed by Dr. Fauci to advance the favored narrative that Covid-19 emerged naturally."
The site also summarizes five primary arguments in favor of the lab-leak theory:
The virus has a biological characteristic not normally occurring in analogous viruses.
There is evidence to indicate that all documented Covid-19 instances are traced back to a single human introduction, unlike prior pandemics that included several spillover events.
Wuhan is home to China's highest laboratory specializing in SARS studies, the one that has been conducting gain-of-function experiments — genetically enhancing organisms — under dubious biosafety standards.
Scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were said to have had symptoms resembling Covid-19 towards the end of 2019, before the virus was found in the local seafood market.
Scientifically, there ought to have been considerable evidence by now to account for a natural origin hypothesis, but none has been forthcoming.
