Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, has issued a video stating that it captured a Pakistani check post near the Afghanistan border. According to the video published by TTP on Monday, the check post is in the Bajaur tribal district, in northwest Pakistan.

However, a senior security official from Pakistan clarified that the checkpost had been abandoned before it was allegedly captured. According to the official, the Pakistani military had vacated the post as part of a process of reducing military presence in some areas, including Bajaur, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan.

In this regard, the troops present at the post were relocated to more secure and new posts. According to him, the check post was vacated a long time back, and the Pakistani troops had never been deployed there when the TTP issued the video.

The Bajaur region, like other tribal districts, has been under persistent security challenges with militant groups operating along the very porous border with Afghanistan. Security concerns have continued to prevail in the area despite the shifting of troops by the military to stronger positions. Meanwhile, the ongoing instability along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has escalated the border tension between the two countries.
