President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the Coca-Cola Company would substitute high-fructose corn syrup with cane sugar in American offerings—an action he hailed as a "very good" decision.

“I have been speaking to @CocaCola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote. “I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”

Though the drink giant has not released an official press statement announcing the move, Reuters indicated that Coca-Cola is set to announce information regarding future product updates and recognized Trump's support for the brand.

If this action were taken, it would be a drastic alteration to Coca-Cola's U.S. formula, which has been based for years on HFCS—a ubiquitous sweetener in the American food market. HFCS has been subjected to widespread criticism due to its link with obesity, diabetes, and other diseases.

The move comes in response to increasing demands for cleaner, more natural food and drink ingredients. The MAHA campaign—a public health movement led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—has been promoting less use of artificial ingredients, such as dyes, additives, and sugar.

Kennedy has been highlighting the relationship between diet and long-term disease, recently saying that revised federal nutrition guidelines, due later this year, will prioritize whole, unprocessed foods.

In May, the MAHA Commission—a group convened by Trump to probe the increasing prevalence of chronic disease in the U.S.—named HFCS as a possible culprit behind childhood obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and liver disease.
