Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan disclosed on Tuesday that Pakistan had intention to paralyse India within 48 hours with its so-called Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos on May 10.
But the offensive collapsed within eight hours only, following which Pakistan opened up lines of communication.
On 10th May, at about 1 am, their [Pakistan's] intention was to bring India on its knees within 48 hours. They unleashed repeated attacks which heightened the battle, although we had only attacked terror-related installations," General Chauhan said.
These were his remarks while giving a lecture on 'Future Wars and Warfare' at Savitribai Phule Pune University.
General Chauhan outlined that the operation had started at approximately 1 am with multiple strikes from Pakistan but their strategy disintegrated in the midst of India's strong counterattack in Operation Sindoor.
"Afghanistan soon contacted and spoke about wanting to talk," he added.
"We did not have eye contact directly; we were tracking each other through radar and at different ranges, except for operations along the Line of Control (LoC). It was a mix of kinetic and non-kinetic warfare. I'm referring to information and cyber warfare by non-kinetic. Of course, kinetic actions also occurred, leading to devastation. The war was nonlinear — operations were taking place simultaneously on the LoC and as distant as Sargodha," General Chauhan described.
Late in the evening of May 10, 2025, as a revenge for Pakistan's late-night raids, India retaliated by hitting major Pakistani airbases such as Nur Khan, Murid, and Rafiqui. Satellite imagery afterwards verified extensive damage to these facilities.
Following India's fierce counterattack and the inflicted damage, Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) phoned his Indian counterpart through a hotline, leading to a prompt ceasefire deal.
India's Operation Sindoor was a precision strike against the Pahalgam terror attack—where Pakistani-sponsored terrorists murdered 26 civilians, the bulk of them tourists—attacking nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with pinpoint accuracy.
