The United States has increased pressure on Israel, urging the protection of civilians as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) resumed intense warfare after a brief ceasefire. With a surge in bombings targeting south Gaza, citizens were instructed to evacuate, heightening concerns for civilian safety.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, asserted on Sunday that the conflict persists until Hamas is subdued. He pledged to continue the military campaign until all objectives are met, emphasizing the determination to achieve these goals.
Israel escalated its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip while withdrawing negotiators from Qatar after the collapse of truce extension discussions. This breakdown was allegedly triggered by a breach of the truce, supported by US intelligence claims, leading to heightened tensions.
A senior Hamas official indicated that no further hostages would be released until a ceasefire is established. Simultaneously, rockets were fired into Israel's southern regions by Hamas, adding to the escalating hostilities.
Global concerns arose over Israel's intensified bombardment in southern Gaza. While Israel claims Hamas militants are hiding among civilians who were urged to evacuate, reports from Gaza suggest the absence of guaranteed safe zones, leaving civilians vulnerable.
The IDF alleged the presence of around 500 tunnels where Hamas operatives are reportedly stationed alongside innocent civilians, intensifying the complexity of the situation. The intertwined presence of civilians and combatants has exacerbated fears for civilian safety amid the ongoing conflict.
