The United States has affirmed its unwavering support for Israel amidst escalating tensions with Iran. Following Iran's launch of numerous drones and cruise missiles against Israel in response to the bombing of one of its diplomatic facilities in Damascus earlier this month, President Joe Biden took swift action, cutting short his weekend retreat to convene with his national security team at the White House.
President Biden, accompanied by top officials including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, CIA Director William Burns, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, engaged in a comprehensive hour-long discussion to assess the situation.
According to National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson, Iran initiated an aerial assault on Israel, prompting President Biden to remain closely briefed by his team. The administration reiterated its staunch commitment to Israel's security, emphasizing continuous communication with Israeli officials and allies.
As waves of Iranian drones reportedly continue to target Israel, the retaliation stems from the Israeli airstrike on a Damascus building housing senior members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The United States, echoing President Biden's stance, stands prepared to support Israel in defending against threats from Iran, underscoring the enduring alliance between the two nations.
