The White House said Israel has accepted a 60-day ceasefire proposal for Gaza, while the Israeli army continues to launch operations within the war-torn region.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in a press conference, stated that US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump "submitted a ceasefire proposal to Hamas that Israel supported and endorsed."
Leavitt elaborated, "Israel approved this proposal before it went out to Hamas. I can also assure you that the talks are ongoing, and we hope a ceasefire in Gaza will occur so we can get all of the hostages home."
She declined further comment, saying, "I won't comment further, as we are in the middle of this at the moment.
CBS News, quoting Xinhua, reports that an Israeli official and a familiar US source disclosed that the agreement put forward is a 60-day ceasefire, in addition to arrangements for the liberation of 10 alive hostages and the bodies of 18 killed hostages.
Hamas said Thursday its leaders were presented the new Gaza ceasefire plan by Witkoff through mediators and were reviewing it seriously.
Hamas replied briefly saying, "The Hamas leadership received the new offer of Witkoff from mediators and is seriously examining it in a manner that represents the interests of our people, brings relief, and reaches a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
