British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty visited London's famous BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, more commonly known as Neasden Temple, in the last weekend of campaigning for the general election.

The couple was given a rousing cheer on their arrival in the temple grounds on Saturday evening. They joined in with the puja ceremony led by priests of the temple.

After visiting the temple complex and meeting volunteers and other members of the community, he—they should have warned him that he was in front of an audience of mad cricket fans—started off his speech to the audience with a reference to India's recent T20 World Cup victory. Afterwards, Sunak said he spoke about how important his Hindu faith is to him.

"I am Hindu, and like all of you, I find inspiration and solace in my faith," Sunak said. "I was proud to take my oath as a Member of Parliament on the 'Bhagavad Gita.' Our faith teaches us to do our duty, without attachment to consequences, as long as our actions are sincere."

"That is the value that my fantastic, supportive parents have inculcated in me, and it is how I live my life. It's also what inspires me in what I hope to pass on to my girls growing up. Dharma, or duty, guides my approach to public service," Sunak concluded.
