In a concerning development, Turkish warplanes conducted airstrikes targeting energy facilities in the northeastern Syrian province of al-Hasakah on Saturday night, as reported by Syrian state television. The Al-Ouda oil field in the town of Al-Qahtaniyah, near Al-Qamishli, was reportedly hit in the aerial assault, along with other oil facilities such as the Saida and Zarbah oil stations, and an Agricultural Bank site in Al-Qahtaniyah.
The attacks were not limited to energy facilities, as additional strikes targeted various locations in the city of Al-Malikiyah. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, confirmed the airstrikes and reported fires in at least two locations. However, information regarding human casualties remains unclear at this point.
It's noteworthy that Turkish military operations often target areas under the control of Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria. Al-Hasakah is predominantly controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which Turkey designates as a terrorist group. The ongoing conflict in the region underscores the complexities and tensions surrounding various factions and their territorial control. The situation warrants close international attention and efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to the conflict.
