Former US President Donald Trump's campaign announced that he would be present at the Republican National Convention despite his having been seriously injured following a shooting incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump "is doing well" and is looking much forward to attending the convention in Milwaukee, a statement released together with the Republican National Committee said. The Convention is expected to be held in Wisconsin from July 15-18 for the formal nomination of Trump as the party's presidential candidate for the poll.
The firing occurred when Trump addressed his supporters at the Butler rally. Couples of gunshots were fired, and people started panicking. Video footage revealed that there was blood traipsing down from his head to his ear; Trump was rushed to a vehicle for safety. Trump recounted from his social media platform, Truth Social, that he was struck near the ear by a bullet with lots of bleeding.
It is something that Trump knows ended horribly, offering condolence messages to the families affected, where one attendee was killed while several others were injured. According to the US Secret Service, the suspected shooter was based on some elevated spot outside the rally venue and is now neutralized after firing at them.
President Joe Biden wasted no time in condemning the violence, insisting that national unity was needed over such acts. He said he is deeply troubled by the attack and there were attempts to reach out to Trump to check on his well-being as he received medical care. Strongly advocated was that there should be condemnation by word and deed of such violence, with Biden in a call for a national standpoint against it.
