U.S. President Donald Trump gave a grim warning to Iran's rulers on Tuesday, asserting that the U.S. has identified the precise whereabouts of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump referred to Khamenei as an "easy target" but made it clear that the U.S. doesn't have any plans to kill him immediately.
"We know precisely where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He's an easy target, safe there — We are not going to eliminate him (kill!), at least not yet," Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.
He later followed up the posting with a warning: "But we don't want missiles fired at civilians, or American troops. Our patience is thinning."
As fighting between Iran and Israel spilled into a fifth straight day, Trump ramped up his rhetoric, demanding Iran's "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" in an independent Truth Social post.
Emphasizing American air supremacy, Trump boasted that the U.S. controlled Iran's skies. "We now have complete and total control of the sky in Iran. Iran had excellent sky trackers and other defensive gear, and lots of it, but it is no match for American made, thought-up, and built 'stuff.' No one does it better than the good ol' USA," he said.
Trump's comments follow his early exit from the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in the Canadian Rockies. While it was speculated that his return to Washington was related to negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Trump fended off such insinuations.
Replying to remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump tweeted: "Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, incorrectly stated that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to return to D.C. to deal with a 'cease fire' between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am going to Washington, but it was certain to be a Cease Fire.". Much larger than that. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, Emmanuel always makes the wrong statement. Stay Tuned!"
As tensions between Israel and Iran rose, Trump also called on civilians within Tehran to leave the city due to fears of increased military attacks.
The current standoff started on Friday and has since escalated, with Israel expressly committing to dismantling Iran's nuclear program. Missile strikes between the two states have become regular, increasing tensions and fears of a larger regional conflict.
