Russian paratroopers holding drills near Ukrainian border: Report

The Russian President has denied all allegations claiming that Russia plans to invade Ukraine. President Putin has instead demanded the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to abandon all military activity in Eastern Europe and not admit Ukraine as a member, as per reports.

The Russian defence ministry on Thursday said that Russian paratroopers will hold drills near the Ukrainian border this week, independent Russian news agency Interfax reported. The Russian President has denied all allegations claiming that Russia plans to invade Ukraine. President Putin has instead demanded the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to abandon all military activity in Eastern Europe and not admit Ukraine as a member, as per reports. The United States and the United Kingdom has also warned Russia of facing massive consequences and severe cost if Moscow attacked Kyiv.

1. Amid the growing crisis between Ukraine and Russia, Moscow announced that Russian paratroopers will hold drills involving around 1,200 troops and over 250 vehicles near the Ukraine border. The exercise will also involve aircraft and the exercise will be split between training grounds in Crimea.

2. The Russian troops would simulate capturing an area as part of an offensive operation, Interfax report added. However, Russia continued to term accusations of Moscow attacking Kyiv as hysteria.

3. Russia has also published a draft agreement that has proposed to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on measures to ensure the security of both sides. Moscow had suggested that Russia and NATO reaffirm that they do not consider each other as adversaries.
