Red Cross Chief's Gaza Visit Set to Focus on Discussions for Hostage Access

Two weeks ago, ICRC representatives met with Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh in Qatar to discuss the release of hostages.

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, is scheduled to travel to Gaza to engage in talks regarding access to hostages currently held by Hamas. The ICRC has been advocating for the release of hostages and seeking permission for Red Cross representatives to visit them, check on their welfare, deliver medications, and facilitate communication with their families.

Two weeks ago, ICRC representatives met with Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh in Qatar to discuss the release of hostages. Last month, Spoljaric met with the family members of hostages in Geneva, along with Israel Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Health Minister Uriel Menachem.

The ICRC emphasizes the need for agreements that would allow their teams to safely carry out their work, stating that they cannot force entry where hostages are held, as the exact location is unknown. The ICRC has consistently urged for the immediate release of all hostages and remains committed to addressing the humanitarian concerns of the families involved.
