President Biden Highlights Strengthened Alliances with India and Allies Amidst China's Ascendancy

President Joe Biden emphasized the rejuvenation of partnerships with key allies such as India, Australia, and Japan, as well as other countries in the Pacific region, in response to the escalating influence of China. Addressing a joint session of the US Congress for his final State of the Union Address, Biden, 81, underscored the importance of competition with China while advocating for peaceful resolutions rather than conflict.

Asserting America's commitment to countering China's unfair economic practices and ensuring stability across the Taiwan Strait, Biden highlighted the strengthened alliances in the region. China's insistence on the reunification of Taiwan with the mainland, even through force if necessary, has raised international concerns, prompting the US to take a firm stance in support of Taiwan's autonomy.

Contrary to claims of American decline, Biden asserted that the United States is on the rise, refuting assertions that China is surpassing America. His remarks coincided with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's verbal assaults on the United States, accusing Washington of containment efforts through sanctions and misconceptions about China.

Biden's administration has implemented sanctions against China on various issues, including human rights abuses and military cooperation with Russia. As the US presidential election campaign gains momentum, China is expected to remain a focal point of discussion.

Highlighting economic achievements during his tenure, Biden pointed to a rise in GDP and a decrease in the trade deficit with China to its lowest level in over a decade. He emphasized measures taken to restrict the transfer of advanced American technologies for military use in China, contrasting his approach with that of his predecessor.

Looking ahead, Biden expressed confidence in America's ability to prevail in the 21st-century competition against China and other global competitors. With the presidential election race narrowing down to a rematch between Biden and former President Donald Trump, Biden also criticized Trump's policies on various issues, including relations with Russia, immigration, the January 6 insurrection, abortion, and gun control.
