PM Modi Wraps Up Canada Visit After G7 Summit, Heads to Croatia for Next Leg of Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a productive visit to Canada on Tuesday, during which he attended the G7 Summit among world leaders and had a series of high-level bilateral meetings. He has now set off for Croatia, concluding the last leg of his three-nation diplomatic trip.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also pointed out the importance of the visit, on X: "PM @narendramodi concludes a very productive visit to Canada! Held fruitful dialogue on key issues in the global context on Energy Security, Technology and Innovation at the @G7 Summit. Met with several leaders & discussed bilateral ties. Next stop -- Croatia."

PM Modi set foot at Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge in Alberta on Tuesday to participate in the G7 Summit. He was received at the site by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

During the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi participated in extensive bilateral interactions, projecting India's proactive approach towards encouraging global collaboration and promoting the voice of the Global South.

He held one-on-one meetings with some of the most important leaders, such as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, just to name a few.

The Prime Minister, who spent close to 24 hours in Canada, not only attended the G7 Outreach Session but also had important bilateral discussions before leaving for Zagreb, Croatia, early yesterday morning (India time).

Prior to initiating his multi-country tour, PM Modi had also said that the visit was also a chance to thank India's allies for supporting India consistently to counter cross-border terrorism, and to forge an even stronger international consensus in the fight against terror in all its forms.

"Dosed down in Calgary, Canada, to participate in the G7 Summit. Will be sitting with various leaders at the Summit and exchanging views on key global concerns. Will be highlighting also the Global South priorities," he had tweeted on his X handle upon arrival.

The G7, or Group of Seven, is a group of several of the world's most developed economies — France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada — and the European Union. The organization meets every year to discuss urgent global issues and coordinate a response.
