At G7 Summit, PM Modi Calls for United Fight Against Terrorism, Amplifies Global South’s Concerns

In his speech at the G7 Outreach Session on Tuesday in Canada, PM Modi also stressed the necessity of listening to the Global South's worries by pointing out India's persistent efforts in speaking their voice on the global platform.

Reaffirming India's unambiguous stance on terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged G7 nations to unite world action against terrorism and take bold steps against those who encourage and enable it.

In his speech at the G7 Outreach Session on Tuesday in Canada, PM Modi also stressed the necessity of listening to the Global South's worries by pointing out India's persistent efforts in speaking their voice on the global platform.

"PM reaffirmed India's position against terrorism & expressed gratitude to the leaders for denouncing the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. He implored them to mobilise international action against terrorism & emphasised strict action against those who instigate & endorse terrorism," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted on X.

The Pahalgam terror attack, which was carried out on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people. In response, India carried out Operation Sindoor with the objective of destroying terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Jaiswal further mentioned that PM Modi, during his address, emphasized how the country's energy security from universal sources can be attained with sustainable as well as environmentally friendly means. He referred to India's efforts towards achieving this through global initiatives like the International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and the Global Biofuels Alliance.

The prime minister also described India's success in enhancing access to technology and its people-first model of harnessing technological innovations. He also raised the importance of effective global governance in addressing challenges arising from artificial intelligence and ensuring responsible innovation.

"PM reaffirmed India's position against terrorism & expressed gratitude to the leaders for joining hands to denounce the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. He called on them to mobilise international action against terrorism & emphasised the necessity of taking strong action against those propagating & financing terrorism," Jaiswal reiterated in his post.

After the G7 meetings, Prime Minister Modi called his interactions with international leaders "productive" and centered on international priorities and dreams for an improved and sustainable world.

Posting a picture with other G7 and invited leaders, PM Modi tweeted on X: "Together for global progress! Productive exchanges with G7 leaders on key global challenges and shared aspirations for a better planet."

In another post, Jaiswal wrote, "A collective commitment to addressing global challenges & promoting common values." He also posted the same group photo, captioning it, "PM @narendramodi with the leaders of @G7 nations and invited partners."

PM Modi was welcomed at Canada by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on his first visit to Canada in ten years.

Before taking part in the summit, the prime minister had revealed that he hoped to debate serious global issues and highlight the agenda of the Global South during his interactions with global leaders.
