Meeting this turn of events, PM Modi posted a message on X emphasizing the robust foundations of bilateral relations. He was hopeful the negotiations would make meaningful progress.

“India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,” PM Modi posted on X.

Yesterday, Trump had renewed the continuation of trade talks, saying, "I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations."

He also called Prime Minister Modi a "very good friend" and mentioned that he looks forward to engaging with him "in the weeks ahead." “I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our great countries,” he added.

The comments mark a shift in tone from the US President, who just last Friday told reporters at a White House press conference, “I’ll always be friends with Prime Minister Modi,” calling him a “great Prime Minister.”

These recent diplomatic exchange come in the context of Trump's August 27 imposition of 50 percent tariffs on Indian imports up from the earlier 25 percent tariff due to India's continued importation of Russian oil amid the Ukraine war.
