PM Modi Discusses Ukraine and Bangladesh in Call with President Biden

The two leaders also held discussions on the recent visit of the Prime Minister to Ukraine, where once again, India talked about its consistent stand of favoring dialogue and diplomacy.

Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the prevailing situation in war-torn Ukraine and the volatile circumstances of Bangladesh with US President Joe Biden on Monday. "Spoke to PM @POTUS@JoeBiden on phone today. We had a detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. I reiterated India's full support for early return of peace and stability," the Prime Minister shared in an X post. Besides Ukraine, the two leaders expressed concern over developments in Bangladesh which has been rocked by protests forcing the resignation and exit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The country is currently under an interim administration headed by Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus. "We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for early restoration of normalcy, and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh," PM Modi added.

He expressed his gratitude to President Biden for the latter's strong support for the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the United States while asserting that it was a partnership based upon shared values and common worldwide concerns on democracy, rule of law, and durable people-to-people ties. The leaders of both countries reviewed the remarkable progress taken in the bilateral relations and reaffirmed that the partnership between India and the United States aims to benefit from the people of the two countries to humanity at large.

Reiterating their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad, the two leaders agreed to stay in close contact. Earlier on Monday, the PM also spoke with Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, another member of the Quad.
